Not Equal

Not Equal, painted with crayons on the top of the wall of the exhibition hall, incorporates multiplication tables to question the universal perceptions and rules that are present in the society. Each couple of numbers that the formulas show is a combination of a smaller number and a larger number found in multiplication tables. Interestingly, although the two numbers yield the same value as a result of multiplication, they are never equal. This implies that, depending on where we stand, the outcome of an event can be perceived quite differently. Through this work, RohwaJeong inquires about the framework of perceptions and standards that we naturally apply in daily life.
