Artist: Lena Zubtsova
painting | Paper, ink, liner | 2014

The military town Bolchoe ozerko (Rybachy peninsula), where Zubtsova was born, was destroyed and the peninsula is no longer inhabited. The wallpaper remains, like the only trace of the Soviet era. It is copied in this work, with all the missing parts and marks that time has left on it. Military symbols are growing in popularity, and forgotten signs appear on consumer goods. The artist’s private work enters the fraught zone of political demand and supply.
