Marta - Mexico City

Artist: Jean-Luc Moulene
painting | Synthetic concrete (Rokam) | 280x250x225mm | 2017

This work is the casting of a rubber mask of Marta Sahagun, former Mexican president Vicente Fox's wife. It has been produced in Mexico City in 2017 and is part of Moulène "Tronches" series begun in 2014 consisting of portraits of real political or fictional characters, modeled in cement from carnival masks and placed on colorful covers. The first "Tronches" have been presented at Villa Medici in Rome on the occasion of the artist solo exhibition in 2015. Here, synthetic concrete chemical absorbed the figure’s makeup and the mask’s painting, thus giving a sculpture-painting. The theme of a body producing objects or the body blending in with objects is present in this work. Photo by: Italo Rondinella Courtesy: La Biennale di Venezia
