Route to Dangerous Profiles

Engaged in global representations of religion, politics and sexuality, the experimental and documentary films of Mark Lotfy play with the language of cinema, narrative continuity, power and positionality. Route to Dangerous Profiles derives from his research on moments from and the aftermath of the 2011 Egyptian revolution, attempting to expose disparate images and broken narratives beyond the mediated and disseminated versions that dominated the media. Mining social media, video games, and popular culture, this work is an audiovisual essay on redefining ideology, its mechanisms and the counter forces of its deconstruction. It uses the present ontological dichotomy of “real and virtual” to have a better understanding of the political event as an extension of the collective and the individual mind, and presents a case study of contemporary history of the Egyptian virtual technological realm.
